Firstly, let’s talk about fragmentation. Mass media has been reminding us constantly that we are living in an increasingly fragmentized generation, not referring to any criticism, I am just enjoying the fleeting sensation that information fragmentation has brought about. Fragments may have always been around with the only difference in sizes. However, the types of fragments have also been increasing in recent times, the different fragments create a riot of colors that makes people dazzled. The job of contemporary artists is to feel this transformation and turn it into a novel aesthetic concept. To me, this is not a retrospection nor a prospect, just like the newly created layer will cover the previous layer and will also be overlayed in the future. The world is not flat, neither is it with depth, they are simply layers that are stacked repeatedly. These layers form the fundamental of history, due to the repeated superposition, the current state is unable to draw a painting in totality, maybe only showing fragments will be able to reflect the reality — a lens that can reflect reality as a whole will be the best interpreter of the generation.

The new series — The artwork of the Space series is inspired by the spiritual crisis after the fragmented era, whereby the faces of humans become increasingly vague. When people head toward freedom from the normative society, destruction and nothingness follow closely. Self-training is more through and fierce than social discipline. In the end, we have become an irrelevant organ in this expansion container. It is the full stirring of the body and machinery. It is geometrically structured and easy to be measured. It can be swallowed up by space at any time, or space. Freedom is like the objects from the past that have been abandoned, and where new species are born. – Hu Zhipeng
